Argument/Pursuasion
-pursuasion often involves an opinion, then a proposal: recommending action
-pursuasion aims to influence readers' actions, or their support for an action by engaging beliefs and feelings
-argument aims to win readers' agreement with an assertion or claim by using reasoning
-most effective works contain both
-stating an opinion=presenting the truth as you see it
-pursuade by gentle means
-start by stating what you believe the author is probably inferring, and connect your view to make it more accurate
-the writer and reader become two people trying to find a common ground
-evidence is needed to support the thesis
-rational appeal means appealing to reason
-emotional appeal means appealing to emotion
-ethnical appeal means letting readers know you are a person of good will, sense, ect
